Children's Residential Support Worker

Our 'Outstanding' Children’s Home in Tavistock is looking for a Residential Support Worker to join their team and be part of something special. A well established, settled team have a vacancy for a strong, active, career minded individual to join them.

We are looking for a children's support worker to become part of our family home, caring for young people who have sometimes complex emotional difficulties. You would be the person to give encouragement and praise when needed, to be patient and understanding during times of crisis and to inspire them to grow and develop.

The role can be emotionally challenging and you could be handling difficult situations BUT you could be the person to change a life for the better.

What do you need?

  • We want people who are emotionally resilient and have a keen interest or experience of supporting vulnerable young people with mental health challenges.
  • Great communication skills, positive and energetic.
  • Ability to remain calm and show empathy during sometimes challenging situations.
  • Full UK Driving licence is essential.
  • You need to be able to work flexibly in caring for the children. This will include working shifts and sleep-ins.

As a therapeutic support worker you will:

  • Be part of a family team that provides a safe and loving home for children and young people who have mental health and behavioural difficulties.
  • Act as a positive role model 
  • Give encouragement and motivation, inspire our young people to try new things.
  • Provide emotional support to allow the children to reach their full potential in sometimes challenging situations
  • Build friendships and trusting relationships
  • Help them to find pleasure in everyday tasks
  • Empower them to make decisions about themselves
