SENDCo – Somerset; Hambridge, TA10 0BG and West Hatch, TA3 5RH
Salary: £35,000 - £50,000 | Full Time (40 hours/week)
Purpose of the Role
To lead and coordinate the provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring that all pupils receive personalised, high-quality support that enables them to achieve their potential. The SENDCO will champion inclusive practice, work collaboratively with staff and external agencies, and model professional integrity and the EPIC values as outlined in the Staff Code of Conduct.

Somerset Progressive School prides itself on being very unique. Both sites are set in rural locations on the outskirts of Taunton. Each site offers an attractive and stimulating learning environment, combining specialised teaching facilities with local resources.
There is a high staff to pupil ratio with most receiving 1:1 tuition or working in small groups. Pupils are encouraged to work alongside others and co-operatively in pairs and small groups, as the development of social skills and independent work strategies are vital.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support with the strategic development of SEND provision in the school.
- Complete Annual Reviews, Interim reviews and Emergency Reviews of EHCP’s in line with the SEND code of practice
- Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the SEND policy and co-ordination of specific provision to support individual pupils with SEN or a disability.
- Oversee the looked after pupils within the school
- Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents and other agencies
- Advise on the use of school’s budget and other resources to meet pupils’ needs effectively, including staff development
- Promote inclusion in the school community and access to the curriculum.
- Leading and managing staff and the effective deployment of staff and resources
- Lead on interventions that will support all pupils
- Quality assurance of Teaching and Learning with a focus on SEND provision.
- Attend and review PEP meetings
Requirements:
- Have an accredited SENDCo qualification
- Hold QTS or QTLS
- Are passionate about education and inclusion
- Have leadership experience and qualities
- Are ready to develop their leadership skills within a school
- Can effectively manage the SEND provision in partnership with the Headteacher
