 £28,288 - £44,304 | Full Time (40 hours/week)

 

Purpose of the Role

To plan and deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching that meets the diverse needs of pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviours. We are seeking an inspirational, Primary-trained teacher to join our dedicated team. You will lead a class of pupils with SEND and autism, designing a learning environment where foundational skills thrive. This role requires a specialist who can blend structured autism pedagogy with creative, thematic learning.

 

At Heckington House School:

Heckington House School is a small, well-resourced setting where staff work closely to deliver a personalised curriculum for pupils with SEMH. It combines core learning with creative, practical and outdoor experiences, supported by strong facilities and on-site resources. The school takes a non-mainstream approach, focusing on each learner’s holistic development — including wellbeing, behaviour, life skills and preparation for next steps — with additional support from Keys Group’s specialist clinical teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour and learning, consistent with the school’s behaviour policy and Staff Code of Conduct.
  • Collaborate with teaching assistants and specialist staff to provide effective support
  • Create and deliver an engaging, thematic primary curriculum tailored to SEND learners.
  • Author clear, compliance-ready curriculum plans, IEPs and progress reports.
  • Implement evidence-based strateiges (e.g. TEACCH,PECS, visual schedules)

Requirements

  • Proven experience teaching pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviour
  • Strong understanding of curriculum, assessment, and behaviour management in special education settings.
  • QTS/QTLS qualification
  • Commitment to professional conduct, safeguarding, and the Staff Code of Conduct.
  • Ability to plan, deliver, and assess effective teaching and learning
  • Resilience, empathy, adaptability, and passion for supporting vulnerable pupils
