EHCP Interventions Support Teaching Assistant

We are seeking an enthusiastic committed professional to join us as an EHCP Interventions Support Teaching Assistant

The successful candidate will:

  • A comprehensive understanding of the legal framework surrounding Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is essential to advocate for and support our students effectively
  • Experience in supporting the preparation and implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and facilitating Annual Reviews is critical to ensuring students receive the appropriate support tailored to their needs
  • Proven experience and training in employing various interventions such as Black Sheep, Talkabout, and Colourful Semantics, enabling children to develop essential communication and social skills
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed approaches, which are vital in addressing the emotional and psychological needs of our students, promoting a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • An understanding of the PACE model (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) is essential for building strong, trusting relationships with our student
  • A kind and supportive attitude that fosters trust and encourages students to express themselves, helping them to overcome challenges.
  • The ability to remain positive and adapt to changing circumstances, demonstrating perseverance even when faced with challenges.
  • Possessing the ability to maintain a professional outlook and not take things personally, as this role can involve emotionally charged situations.
  • Collaborative qualities are crucial as you will work closely with teachers, educational psychologists, and other professionals involved in the students' well-being
  • A sound understanding of working with children affected by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), recognising the impact these have on behaviour and learning
  • Mentoring, supporting and inspiring learners by supporting them with curriculum-based learning in the classroom, on home tuition and outreach and through outdoor activities

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A committed and passionate view of students with SEND
  • At least two years’ experience minimum of working in a SEND environment or similar unit/provision 
  • A level 3 TA qualification is advantageous

Broadwood School is a specialist setting set in the idyllic hills of Halifax with provision to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs. Through targeted interventions such as Lego Therapy, Drawing and Talking and Speech and Language, we aim to encourage pupils to develop their skills around self-regulation, managing emotions and effective communication. 

Broadwood School is on a journey to becoming a Trauma Informed School, where we consider the external factors which can lead to contextually inappropriate behaviours. To ensure the best outcomes for our pupils, we invest in our staff training and development to ensure our staff are trained to support pupils through proactive de-escalation.
